Charity Yakkers first Avdventure Auckland to Tauranga

So, Charity Yakkers 2013.

From the 9th-17th March 2013, 5 other paddlers and I completed a 9 day kayak paddle from Auckland to Tauranga. We raised $17,000 for three local Auckland charities involved in supporting families.

The mission was;

Pull together a team of kayaking enthusiasts
Train/mentor new yakkers who wanted to “give it a go”
Plan an ambitious adventure that would capture people’s attention
Raise awareness & much needed funding for families & communities in need
Collaborate with business partners who want to “give back”
Enjoy a thrilling adventure & challenge our personal limitatons

Every year we choose a charity to support and donations can be made to;

Charity Yakkers organises fund raising events and raises money which it passes on to the charities it is supporting.

About us

Welcome to Charity Yakkers! Yakkers is the slang for people that love kayaks – not people that ride hairy South American mammals. So we paddle kayaks, doing what we love, whilst raising money for charities.

On this journey several people have started fledgling charities to support people less fortunate than most. I am supporting them with my business skills and connections but would now like to step out personally and do something to raise money for them.

Loving People
The simple things in life are free! Reaching out to the people that surround us is easy. At the heart of Charity Yakkers is love of people!
Seeing opportunities
Needs come in all shapes and sizes from large scale projects to random acts of kindness. Charity Yakkers has a flexible approach ~ seeing all opportunities big & small.
Changing the landscape
Many things can change a landscape for communities; caring, reaching out, sponsoring projects and funding initiatives. Ultimately its people in partnership that makes the difference, we want to work with those influencers who are making a difference.
Having Fun
A kayak is fun! So there is no way we could do this without having some! We love having fun and more than that we love inviting others to have fun too. There are no boring Charity Yakkers, they are wild, passionate and in love with LIFE!

Charity Yakkers ~ Team 2015

Team Kim

I’m part of this adventure this year because I have some unfinished business from last years trip. A further test of myself and potentially some more rugged, adventure style stories to be made.

I will be paddling a PadlingPerfection Sea Bear, older model, for this trip. It has great load carrying capacity, easy to paddle and amazingly stable in a variety of conditions.

Team Mark

Mark is the navigator, repairman, extreme fitness guy and overall sergeant major for the trip!
Mark will be paddling his own, hand built kayak on the trip.
A non stop talker and story teller, Marks experience was pivotal in the successful completion of our 2013 trip and his inclusion in the 2015 adventure adds great strength to the team.

Team Patrick

A late join up to the 2013 team, Patrick proved to be the encourager of the trip. Always upbeat, with a joke or story, Patrick was that point of support for the whole team especially in the difficult parts of the journey.
Patrick is an experienced K1 paddler, water polo player and just loves encouraging others to be the best they can be.
